Here is how to download Snapchat videos: copy the Spotlight link in the Snapchat app, paste it into the Snapchat video downloader and tap Download. A typical Spotlight resolves in about a second, and then you tap Save MP4 to keep the file. You do not need a Snapchat account, a login or an extra app, only a modern browser. The sections below cover which links work, the steps on iPhone, Android and desktop, and what to do when a link will not load.
Quick answer: the three steps
Saving a public Snapchat video takes three steps. They work with Spotlight links, with public profile and Highlight links, and with the short snapchat.com/t/ links the Snapchat app copies when you tap Share. To save a creator’s Story and Highlights, you can even type just their username (username or @username) into the box.
- Open the Spotlight in the Snapchat app, tap Share and choose Copy Link.
- Paste the link into the Snapchat downloader and press Download.
- Tap Save MP4 when the result card appears.
Why Snapchat has no save button for other people’s snaps
Snapchat is built around sharing that does not last. You can keep your own snaps in Memories, but for someone else’s Spotlight or Story there is usually no option that writes a file to your phone. Sharing a Spotlight with a friend only sends it inside the app, and a Story disappears after 24 hours.
Pasting the link into a downloader gives you the file itself: the Spotlight as an MP4, or each snap of a Story or Highlight as a separate photo or video. Screen recording is the other common workaround, but it also captures the app interface and loses quality, so a direct download is the cleaner choice.
Which Snapchat links work and what each one returns
To get a Spotlight link, tap Share on the video and choose Copy Link. For a creator’s Story and Highlights, copy their public profile link from the share or three-dot menu, or simply type their username. For a single Highlight, open it from the profile and copy the link the same way. What you get back depends on what you paste.
- Spotlight: a snapchat.com/spotlight/… or snapchat.com/@username/spotlight/… link returns that Spotlight video as an MP4.
- Public profile or username: a snapchat.com/@username or snapchat.com/add/username link, or just the username (username or @username), returns the creator’s current public Story plus every public Highlight on the profile. The snaps are grouped under the Story and under each Highlight’s title, and every snap has its own save button, as a JPG for a photo or an MP4 for a video.
- Single Highlight: a snapchat.com/@username/highlight/… link returns only the snaps in that one Highlight, each with its own save button.
- Share links: the snapchat.com/t/… links the app copies work too, for Spotlights, profiles and Highlights alike.
How to download Snapchat videos on iPhone
Safari works well. In the Snapchat app, open the Spotlight, tap Share and choose Copy Link. Open the downloader in Safari, paste the link, tap Download and then Save MP4. The file is saved to Files → Downloads.
To move the video into your Photos library, open it in the Files app, tap the Share button and choose Save Video. For a photo snap from a Story or Highlight, choose Save Image instead. Our TikTok download guide uses the same Files-to-Photos step for TikTok videos.
How to download Snapchat videos on Android
Copy the link in Snapchat with Share → Copy Link, then open Chrome or any other modern browser. Paste the link, press Download and tap Save MP4. The file goes to your Downloads folder, and most gallery apps scan that folder, so the video usually shows up within a few moments.
If it does not appear in your gallery, open the Files app, go to Downloads and move the file to any folder you like. Photo snaps from a Story or Highlight land in the same folder as JPG files.
Saving Snapchat videos on a Mac or Windows PC
Public Spotlights and profiles also open on snapchat.com in any desktop browser. Open the Spotlight or the creator’s profile, copy the URL from the address bar and paste it into the downloader. When you click Save MP4, the file lands in your browser’s download folder, which is Downloads by default on Windows and macOS.
If you found the snap on your phone, send the link to your computer, for example in a note or an email to yourself. A snapchat.com/t/ link works in a desktop browser just as it does on a phone.
Desktop is also the easiest place to sort what you save. Create a folder per creator or project and rename the files as they arrive, so they are easy to find later.
Troubleshooting Snapchat downloads
Most failed downloads come down to one of a few causes. Check these before you try again.
- Only public content works. Private snaps, chats, friends-only Stories, private accounts and anything that needs a Snapchat login cannot be fetched.
- Expired Story: Stories vanish after 24 hours, but a profile link or username also returns the creator’s public Highlights. It only comes back empty when the profile has neither a current public Story nor any public Highlights.
- Share links: copy the snapchat.com/t/… link exactly as the app gives it. Do not shorten it or cut off part of it.
- Wrong link: only Spotlight, public profile and Highlight links, or a username, are supported. A link to anything else in Snapchat will not resolve.
- Removed Spotlights cannot be fetched, because the video is no longer available from Snapchat.
Respect creators’ rights
Saving a snap is easy, but the video or photo still belongs to the person who made it. Many Spotlights and Stories are sketches, tutorials or moments from someone’s day that they chose to share, often only for 24 hours. Save them for personal reference or with the creator’s permission. If you share one, credit the creator and link to their public profile.
FAQ
How do I download a Snapchat video on iPhone?
In the Snapchat app, tap Share on the Spotlight and choose Copy Link. Paste it into the downloader in Safari, tap Download and then Save MP4. The video is saved to Files → Downloads, and Share → Save Video moves it into Photos.
Can I download someone’s Snapchat Story and Highlights?
Yes, if they are public. Paste the creator’s public profile link, such as snapchat.com/@username, or just type their username. You get their current Story plus every public Highlight on the profile, grouped by title, with a save button on each snap. Stories disappear after 24 hours, but snaps the creator saved to a Highlight stay available.
Do snapchat.com/t/ links work?
Yes. The downloader accepts the snapchat.com/t/ share links the app copies, as well as full Spotlight, profile and Highlight links. Paste the link as it is.
Can I download private snaps or friends-only Stories?
No. The free tool only works with public content. Private snaps, chats, friends-only Stories and anything that needs a login cannot be fetched.
