Here is how to download Pinterest videos: copy the pin link in the Pinterest app, paste it into the Pinterest video downloader and tap Download. A typical pin resolves in about a second, and then you tap Save MP4 to keep the file. You do not need a Pinterest account, a login or an extra app. The sections below cover iPhone, Android and desktop, plus Idea Pins, image pins and the problems people run into most often.
Quick answer: the three steps
Saving a public video pin takes three steps. They work with full pinterest.com/pin/ links from any country domain and with the short pin.it links the Pinterest app copies.
- Open the pin in the Pinterest app, tap the share icon and choose Copy link.
- Paste the link into the Pinterest downloader and press Download.
- Tap Save MP4 when the result card appears.
Why Pinterest has no download button for most videos
Pinterest is built around saving pins to boards. When you tap Save, the pin is added to one of your boards, but it stays inside Pinterest. No file is written to your phone or computer.
Image pins often have a download option in the menu, but most video pins do not. Resolving the pin link with a downloader gives you the actual file: the MP4 that Pinterest itself serves for the pin, typically in 720p. Screen recording is the other common workaround, but it also captures the interface and loses quality, so a direct download is the cleaner choice.
How to download Pinterest videos on iPhone
Safari works well. In the Pinterest app, open the video pin, tap the share icon and choose Copy link. Open the downloader in Safari, paste the link, tap Download and then Save MP4. The file is saved to Files → Downloads.
To move the video into your Photos library, open it in the Files app, tap the Share button and choose Save Video. It then appears in your camera roll next to your other clips. Our TikTok download guide uses the same Files-to-Photos step for TikTok videos.
How to download Pinterest videos on Android
Copy the link from the pin with Share → Copy link, then open Chrome or any other modern browser. Paste the link, press Download and tap Save MP4. The file goes to your Downloads folder, and most gallery apps scan that folder, so the video usually shows up within a few moments.
If it does not appear in your gallery, open the Files app, go to Downloads and move the video to any folder you like.
Saving Pinterest videos on a Mac or Windows PC
Open the pin on pinterest.com in any desktop browser. Clicking a pin in your feed opens its own page, so the address bar shows a link with /pin/ in it. Copy that URL, paste it into the downloader and click Save MP4. The file lands in your browser’s download folder, which is Downloads by default on Windows and macOS.
Country versions such as pinterest.co.uk, pinterest.ca or br.pinterest.com work the same way, so you can paste whichever link your browser shows.
Desktop is also the easiest place to sort what you save. Create a folder per project or moodboard and rename the files as they arrive, so they are easy to find later.
Idea Pins, image pins and GIFs
Not every pin is a single video. Idea Pins can have several pages, and some pins hold several images you swipe through. When you paste one of these, every item comes back with its own save button, so you can keep the whole pin or only the pages you need. It works much like our Instagram carousel guide describes for carousel posts.
- Video pins are saved as MP4, the file Pinterest serves for the pin.
- Image pins give you the original full-size image, not the smaller preview shown in the feed.
- GIF pins are saved as the GIF itself, so the animation keeps playing.
- Idea Pins and multi-image pins return every page or image as a separate file.
Troubleshooting Pinterest downloads
Most failed downloads come down to one of a few causes. Check these before you try again.
- Secret boards and private pins are not supported. Only public pins can be fetched.
- Short links are fine: a pin.it link copied from the app works just like a full pinterest.com/pin/ link.
- Wrong link: a board, profile or search page will not work. Open the individual pin and copy its link. The free tool saves one pin at a time, not a whole board.
- Removed pins cannot be fetched, because the file is no longer available from Pinterest.
- Outbound links: many pins point to an external website. Copy the link of the pin itself, not the site it leads to.
Respect creators’ rights
A pin is easy to save, but the video or image still belongs to the person who made it. Many pins are recipes, tutorials, illustrations or photos that someone spent real time creating. Save them for personal reference, for inspiration or with the creator’s permission. If you share one, credit the creator and link back to the original pin.
